Early in 2025, clouds have continued to obscure the blue sky after a particularly gloomy 2024 for France, which was the grayest year since 1993, according to a report by Météo-France.
During the past 12 months, 59 of the 60 major French cities with observation stations have seen sunlight levels below average (based on the timeframe from 1991 to 2020). The only place in Corsica to experience a small excess of sunlight (+2.1%) was Ajaccio. Over the course of the previous year, these 60 towns lost an average of 159 hours of sunshine, or 8.5% of their total sunshine levels. This lack of sunshine had the greatest impact in the country’s center-west, where Chartres saw a 17.4% decline, Le Mans and Blois saw a -16.2% reduction, and Tours saw a -15.2% drop.
