President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian political leaders to sharpen their focus on meeting the needs of the impoverished and vulnerable populations. During an Iftar gathering on Monday evening in Abuja, the President welcomed governors, members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), Service Chiefs, and select Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) at the State House. He underscored the significance of selfless leadership that prioritizes the well-being of the populace.
Expressing his appreciation for the attendees’ presence, President Tinubu acknowledged it as a sign of respect and commitment. He highlighted that the core of leadership lies in alleviating the hardships faced by the people, ensuring that policies and resources are aimed at enhancing their lives. He commended the positive developments already underway, praising the government’s focus on people-centered policies that are beginning to show improvements in human development metrics and economic growth indicators.
Recognizing the collective effort behind the nation’s economic reforms, the President attributed success to the dedication of FEC members and the cooperative spirit among leaders at the subnational level. He recalled the shared resolve during their initial FEC meeting, where the metaphor of “fetching water from a dry well” illustrated the hard work necessary to rejuvenate the economy. President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to utilizing government resources to alleviate the burdens on citizens, stressing that leaders at all levels should prioritize spending in service of the people rather than allowing them to shoulder the costs.
Encouraging leaders to reflect on the long-term consequences of their actions, President Tinubu stated that future generations would evaluate their contributions to national advancement. He urged them to see themselves as navigators steering the nation toward a prosperous future, reminding them that holding public office is a significant privilege that carries substantial responsibility.

Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, praised the President for his courageous and transformative reforms, noting the positive changes already being experienced nationwide. Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, who led the Christian prayers, spoke about the unity represented by the concurrent fasting periods of Christians and Muslims, expressing optimism for a more united Nigeria.
Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, also commended the economic reforms, pointing out the consistent decline in the prices of goods and food items. He recognized President Tinubu’s bravery and leadership, emphasizing how these initiatives are enhancing the quality of life for Nigerians.
