
Operatives of the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos, have announced the arrests of suspected human traffickers and a cultist in separate operations. According to Zonal Spokesperson CSP Ayuba Umma, firearms, ammunition, and multiple voter’s cards were also recovered.
In Lagos, the Zonal Intelligence Response Squad (ZIRS) dismantled a suspected human trafficking syndicate on March 22nd, arresting Stella Edem and Susan Michael in the Command Meran area. Edem allegedly confessed to recruiting young girls for sex work in Mauritania, stating she earned a commission per victim. Michael admitted to initially recruiting for domestic work but claimed to have withdrawn upon suspecting the girls were intended for sexual exploitation. The veracity of these claims remains to be determined through further investigation.

In Ijebu-Ife, Ogun State, the Zone 2 Dragon Squad II (ZDS-II) raided a suspected Eiye cult hideout on March 19th, arresting 54-year-old Orekoya Abayomi. A search of his residence allegedly yielded a local pistol, live cartridges, 21 voter’s cards with different names (suspected to be fake), and a pump-action gun. The suspect was allegedly planning an attack with other cult members who escaped. The intended use of the voter’s cards and the specific nature of the planned attack remain under investigation.
CSP Umma stated that investigations are ongoing, and the arrested individuals will face prosecution upon completion of the inquiries. The success of these operations in curbing human trafficking and cultism within Zone 2 remains to be seen, pending the outcome of the investigations and subsequent legal proceedings.
