On Sunday, April 27, a demonstration took place at Place de la République in Paris, near the statue of Marianne, to commemorate Aboubakar Cissé, a 23-year-old Muslim man murdered at the mosque of La Grand-Combe in southern France.
Several organizations, including SOS Racisme, the League of Human Rights, and the National Center for Monitoring the Far Right, organized the gathering. Radical left LFI MP Thomas Portes also participated.
LFI leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon and SOS Racisme president Dominique Sopo were present to show solidarity with the victim and the Muslim community. However, Sopo was confronted by some demonstrators who criticized him for not using the term “Islamophobia.”
