President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, have officially launched the Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP). An initiative with the stated goal of creating 2.5 million jobs across Nigeria. The program, presented as a key element of the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” will focus on skills development, entrepreneurship, and digital innovation.
LEEP is structured around five core components: a national job portal, the LEEP Digital Academy, the “Digital Nomads” program, the Vocational and Entrepreneurship Program (VEP), and nationwide job fairs. These elements are intended to provide access to employment opportunities, digital skills training, and entrepreneurial support, with a stated emphasis on inclusivity for women, youth, and marginalized communities.
Minister Onyejeocha has played a prominent role in the development and implementation of LEEP.
The Tinubu administration has positioned LEEP as a transformative tool for reducing unemployment and empowering citizens. The government aims to foster innovation and entrepreneurship, with the broader goal of positioning Nigeria as a regional economic hub.

As LEEP is implemented nationwide, its success will be closely watched. Analysts note that the program’s effectiveness will depend on several factors, including consistent funding, transparent implementation, and the ability to connect training with actual employment opportunities in a challenging economic climate. Scrutiny will also focus on how effectively the program reaches its stated goals of inclusivity and empowerment for marginalized communities. The program’s impact on Nigeria’s unemployment rate and overall economic development remains to be seen.
