A British couple held in Iran on espionage charges has been told they can expect a verdict and sentence within days, the family of Craig and Lindsay Foreman said Thursday.
The couple, who are both 52, appeared in court in Iran on Saturday.
They have been held in Iran since January, when they were detained as they passed through Kerman, in central Iran, while on a round-the-world motorbike trip.
Tehran, which is holding them in separate prisons in or near the capital, has insisted they are spies.

The claim is rejected by their family, who have raised concerns about prison conditions, including cramped cells and a lack of food, and urged the British government to secure their freedom.
“A verdict and sentence could be issued within 7–10 days,” the family said in a press release, adding they were “alarmed about the trial proceedings”.
“It is unclear as to whether or not Lindsay and Craig were given any opportunity to present their defence in the trial lasting less than three hours,” the family said.
“The court case may be moving forward, but our parents are still trapped in horrific conditions,” their son Joe Bennett added.
Bennett told the BBC that the window to secure their release was “closing, potentially before their sentence”.
He said the couple’s family had met with Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on September 16.
“We are deeply concerned by reports that Craig and Lindsay Foreman have been charged with espionage in Iran. We continue to raise this case directly with the Iranian authorities,” a foreign office spokesperson said.
Lindsay is being detained in a small area of Qarchak women’s prison, which human rights groups have repeatedly criticised for its reportedly dire conditions.
Meanwhile, Craig is being held in Evin prison and has endured at least one month without funds for food or water, the family said in September.
