Following years of strained relations stemming from Brexit, France and the United Kingdom are once again collaborating at the highest levels, demonstrating their commitment to the security of the continent alongside their European partners. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to arrive in Paris on Wednesday, March 26, to prepare for a new meeting of the “coalition of the willing” at the Elysée Palace.
The French-British initiative on Thursday will involve approximately 30 allied nations, all poised to offer additional support to Ukraine and facilitate a potential ceasefire between Kyiv and Moscow, particularly as the Trump administration embarks on challenging negotiations with Russia, independent of European involvement. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is anticipated to join the discussions in Paris, mirroring the visit of the French president to the coalition’s inaugural meeting in London on March 2.

The primary focus will be on discussing enhanced military aid for Ukraine to bolster its forces as the conflict continues, while also refining strategies to deploy a “reassurance force” on the ground to uphold a potential ceasefire. The commitment demonstrated by these two nuclear powers is welcomed by other European nations, even though the “coalition of the willing” still has significant challenges to address.
