Mohamed Amra, a French fugitive nicknamed “The Fly,” was apprehended in Romania on Saturday, according to the French interior minister, following his stunning liberation by gunmen during an assault on a prison van in May.
French authorities had initiated an extensive search for the fugitive, with his escape leading to the fatalities of two prison guards and being highlighted by right-wing politicians as proof that France was losing control over drug-related crimes.
“I commend all the forces that made Mohamed Amra’s arrest in Romania today a reality. A heartfelt thanks to Romania for its significant collaboration,” said Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau on X.
Amra, a 30-year-old from northern France, is linked to drug trafficking, as stated by the Paris prosecutor’s office.

Additionally, he faced charges from prosecutors in Marseille for a kidnapping that resulted in a death, as reported.
