France is providing intelligence support to Ukraine, as stated by Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu on Thursday. This announcement came shortly after the United States declared a halt to its intelligence sharing with Kyiv, a move aimed at increasing pressure on President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
The U.S. is urging Zelenskiy to engage with President Donald Trump regarding the organization of peace talks with Russia, which launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
“We possess intelligence assets that we utilize to assist the Ukrainians,” Lecornu mentioned during an interview with France Inter.
He noted, “It has been suspended since yesterday afternoon,” in reference to the U.S. intelligence-sharing with Ukraine. “For our British allies, who are part of the intelligence community with the United States, the situation is more complex.”

Lecornu also emphasized that France’s nuclear arsenal, established during the early Cold War era to maintain independence from the major powers of Washington and Moscow, is adequate.
President Emmanuel Macron indicated on Wednesday that France is willing to discuss extending the protective umbrella of its nuclear capabilities to its European allies, particularly in light of the threats posed by Russia. This statement was made ahead of a summit of European leaders focused on Ukraine and defense matters.
