President Emmanuel Macron has officially announced the launch of a citizens’ convention focused on “the time of children” and the organization of the day for children aged 3 to 18. Speaking to Le Parisien on Friday, May 2, Macron stated the need to ensure that the organization of pupils’ days is more conducive to their development and learning, while also facilitating family life. He expressed hope for broad agreement among parents, educators, local authorities, and even tourism professionals.
The convention will follow the established format of previous citizens’ conventions on climate and end-of-life care, bringing together a randomly selected panel of French citizens and relevant stakeholders. The convention is expected to begin in early June and continue into the fall. The Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE), an advisory body representing unions, employers, and nonprofits, will oversee the organization of the convention. The Prime Minister’s office has confirmed that a letter of instruction has been sent to the CESE.
