The French Open 2025 is set to begin on Sunday, May 25, with the draw taking place on Thursday at 2 pm in the Orangerie d’Auteuil in Paris.
Men’s Draw:
- Favorites: Carlos Alcaraz (reigning champion, Monte-Carlo and Rome Masters winner) is well-positioned to defend his title, and Jannik Sinner (world number one, Rome finalist) is a strong rival despite a recent suspension.
- Challengers: Casper Ruud (Madrid winner), Holger Rune (only player to beat Alcaraz on clay in 2025), Alexander Zverev, and Novak Djokovic are all contenders but not at their best form. Lorenzo Musetti and Jack Draper could be surprise players.
Women’s Draw:
- Favorites: Iga Swiatek (winner of the last three French Open tournaments) is a strong contender, but Aryna Sabalenka (world number one) is improving on clay.
- Challengers: Coco Gauff (ranked second, Madrid and Rome finalist), Jasmine Paolini (Rome winner, Roland-Garros finalist), and Zheng Qinwen (Olympic gold medalist at Roland-Garros) are all players to watch.
French Hopes:
- Women: Expectations are low, with Varvara Gracheva (ranked 68th) as the only Frenchwoman in the top 100. Reaching the third round would be considered a success. Caroline Garcia has struggled with form and injuries.
- Men: Arthur Fils (ranked 14th) could aim for the second week, but has never won a match at Roland-Garros. Ugo Humbert, Corentin Moutet, and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard also offer hope. Gaël Monfils remains a player to watch.
