
Former surgeon Joël Le Scouarnec is facing charges of sexual abuse involving 299 victims, the majority of whom were children entrusted to his care. This case is regarded as one of the most significant child abuse scandals in the history of the French legal system.
Now 74 years old, Le Scouarnec will confront numerous victims during a four-month trial set to begin on Monday at the Morbihan criminal court in Vannes, Brittany. If found guilty, he could receive a sentence of up to 20 years in addition to the 15 years he is currently serving for his 2020 conviction related to the rape and sexual assault of minors.

While he does not dispute the allegations, he claims to have limited recollection of the events. Some survivors have reported having no memory of the assaults, as they were unconscious at the time.
