The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called on Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, to address growing concerns over alleged plans for aerial bombardments in Onuimo Local Council, Imo State. Rumors of impending military airstrikes have caused widespread panic, with nearly half of the local population reportedly fleeing their homes. Schools, markets, and businesses have shut down in fear.
HURIWA warns that the absence of an official response could lead to a humanitarian crisis and erode public trust in the military. The group is urging Defence Headquarters to reassure the public that civilian areas will not be targeted and to take swift action to restore calm. National Coordinator Emmanuel Onwubiko emphasized that the military’s primary duty is to protect citizens, not to instill fear, insisting that the situation must be resolved immediately.
