Italian authorities have extradited Olivier Hadzovic, a 20-year-old French national, to France in connection with the murder of Aboubakar Cissé in a mosque in La Grand-Combe. The extradition took place on Friday, May 9, according as confirmed by a French prosecutor. Hadzovic is accused of fatally stabbing Cissé, a young Malian man, during prayers on April 25.
Following the attack, Hadzovic fled to Italy, where he turned himself in to authorities after three days. He now faces charges of “murder aggravated by premeditation and on the grounds of race or religion”. While Hadzovic has admitted to the killing, he denies it was motivated by anti-Islamic sentiment. However, the victim’s family is pushing for the investigation to be reclassified as a terrorist act.
