The largest pass of Devlin “Duck” Hodges’ life was completed four years after he was a member of the Ottawa Redblacks.
He gave country music star Lainey Wilson an engagement ring instead of a football.
On Wednesday, the 32-year-old Grammy Award winner announced on Instagram that she would marry Hodges, her four-year boyfriend.
Wilson wrote, “4x4xU forever,” beneath a picture of Hodges popping the question.
In 2019, Hodges became an undrafted free agent and signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers after a stellar collegiate career at Samford. For Mike Tomlin’s team, he made six starts and finished with a 3-3 record following injuries to Mason Rudolph and Ben Roethlisberger.
The following year, the 28-year-old Alabaman was waived, and on September 16, 2021, he signed a three-year contract with the Redblacks following six off-season months with the Los Angeles Rams.
Hodges made one start and played in two games for Ottawa, which lost to the Toronto Argos 23–20 on November 6. He completed 16 of 38 passes for 139 yards and an interception.
The following April, he stopped playing football professionally.

Hodges proudly declared that he loved going to concerts and traveling with Wilson, whom he met in Nashville in 2021 through mutual friends, while obtaining his Tennessee real estate agent license.
Wilson stated last month that “I might have to propose to him” during an interview with Bunnie Xo on CMT.
“No,” Bunnie said, “Duck will do it. I sensed it.
Wilson, a nine-time CMA Award winner, once claimed that she didn’t write love songs because she had never been in a relationship that gave her the desire to write romantic music.
However, she claimed in a 2023 interview with American Songwriter that meeting Hodges was the turning point in her life.
