French President Emmanuel Macron is set to address the nation on Wednesday at approximately 1900 GMT, as announced in a post on the social media platform X.
“In this time of uncertainty, as the world faces significant challenges, I will speak to you tonight,” Macron stated, coinciding with a special summit of European Union leaders focused on defense and Ukraine scheduled for Thursday.
European nations are urgently working to increase defense expenditures and bolster support for Ukraine amid rising concerns regarding the U.S. administration’s commitment to European security.
Earlier this week, U.S. President Donald Trump suspended military assistance to Kyiv, marking another shift in U.S. policy towards a more accommodating approach to Russia.
France is actively seeking to restore relations between the United States and Ukraine to foster a “lasting and robust peace,” according to government spokeswoman Sophie Primas, who spoke earlier on Wednesday.
“We have proposed a truce… France and Europe are striving to reconnect the United States and Ukraine,” Primas informed LCI television.

France and Britain are advocating for a partial one-month truce between Russia and Ukraine, which would encompass air, sea, and energy infrastructure attacks but exclude ground combat, as noted by Macron and his foreign minister earlier this week.
These remarks come amid a surge of European diplomatic efforts to reinforce Western support for Ukraine following a contentious meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office last Friday.
