Paris prosecutors have initiated an investigation into Elon Musk’s X social media platform regarding alleged algorithmic biases, as reported by Franceinfo on Friday, referencing the prosecutors’ office.
The inquiry was prompted by centrist Ensemble Pour La Republique (EPR) MP Eric Bothorel, who raised concerns on January 12 about the potential use of biased algorithms by X, according to Franceinfo.
The algorithms in question are believed to have “likely distorted the functioning of an automated data processing system.” Magistrates and specialized assistants from the cybercrime unit are currently examining the situation and conducting preliminary technical assessments, as stated by the Paris public prosecutor’s office. Bothorel mentioned on X, “I sent a letter to the cyber J3 prosecutor’s office on this subject on January 12.”
