As Nigeria implements President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is increasingly positioned as a key driver of national development.
With a refocused vision, new leadership, and alignment with federal priorities, NASENI is emerging as a significant vehicle for technological advancement, industrial development, and economic diversification – all central to President Tinubu’s policy objectives.
From deploying solar technologies to power rural communities to promoting local manufacturing and skills development, NASENI is evolving from a research agency into a transformative force for sustainable growth in Nigeria.
President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” aims to revitalize Nigeria’s economy, strengthen institutions, and improve the quality of life for its citizens through inclusive policies and strategic investments in key sectors. Innovation, infrastructure development, and industrialization are central to this mission.

NASENI, established in 1992, is now playing a more prominent role in this agenda. Its mandate to develop capital goods and machine tools, adapt imported technologies, and support domestic industrial capacity aligns with the president’s vision of building a self-reliant Nigeria.
In September 2023, President Tinubu appointed Khalil Suleiman Halilu as the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI. Halilu, at 32, is the youngest person to lead the Agency and the first with a background in the private sector, specifically in technology and entrepreneurship, signaling a shift in the agency’s direction.
