The Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders (NDRC), a prominent group in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta region, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for what it describes as significant progress in fostering peace, empowerment, and development in the area.
The NDRC specifically highlighted the appointment of Dr. Dennis Otuaro as Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) as a strategic move that is yielding positive results. The PAP was established to reintegrate former militants into society through education, vocational training, and economic opportunities.
Otuaro’s Leadership Hailed as “Masterstroke”
The NDRC praised Otuaro as a development-focused leader with strong ties to the grassroots, stating that his leadership is consolidating peace, empowering ex-agitators, and securing the region’s stability. The group believes Otuaro’s appointment is not only crucial for maintaining peace but also for strengthening the ruling APC’s political base in the region.
Concerns Raised Over Alleged Smear Campaign
However, the NDRC expressed concern over what it claims is a coordinated smear campaign against Dr. Otuaro, alleging a deliberate attempt to undermine President Tinubu’s potential re-election bid in 2027. The group warned that these attacks are aimed at destabilizing the Niger Delta and derailing the administration’s development agenda.
Call for Unity and Continued Support
The NDRC urged stakeholders in the Niger Delta to resist divisive tactics and support the government’s efforts to build lasting peace and prosperity. The group reaffirmed its support for the Tinubu administration, calling on community leaders, youth groups, and political actors to rally around the Presidential Amnesty Programme and ensure the gains made are sustained.
The Niger Delta, historically plagued by conflict and instability related to oil resources, is now seen by some as charting a path towards sustainable peace, economic empowerment, and political inclusion under President Tinubu’s leadership. The success of the Amnesty Programme and the stability of the region are considered vital for Nigeria’s overall economic and political stability. International observers are closely monitoring the situation in the Niger Delta, given its significance to global energy markets and regional security.
