The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit has reportedly launched an inquiry into the Delta State Police command’s handling of the death investigation of Shimite Bello Love, former special adviser on Trade and Export to Governor Sheriff Oborevweri.
The Guardian previously reported that Ms. Bello Love was allegedly murdered on Easter Day at her residence in Asaba, Delta State.
The intervention by the Police in Abuja follows a formal petition from Chief Kimashinor Nwakalo-Imu, head of the late Shimite’s family, alleging that the Delta State Police conducted an “untidy and unprofessional” investigation.
Reportedly, the primary suspect, her husband, Pastor David Favour Love, escaped from police custody in Asaba, prompting the family to petition the IGP.
According to Nwakalo-Imu, the IGP’s monitoring unit has taken over the case file from the Asaba command. They are also investigating a pharmacist who, allegedly on the instruction of Mr. Love, administered oral and intravenous medication to Shimite 24 hours before her death.
