
In a significant effort to address escalating insecurity, the Nigeria Police Force has initiated enhanced operations across multiple states, effectively neutralizing armed bandits, seizing weapons, and making key arrests. Following the orders of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, the Benue State Police Command, through its Operation Zenda Joint Taskforce, carried out a series of impactful raids aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts.
On March 19, 2025, around 2 AM, police operatives confronted heavily armed bandits in a fierce gunfight in Agwabi, Tombo Ward, Buruku Local Government Area. The security forces, utilizing superior firepower, eliminated 12 bandits, while others managed to escape. Tragically, the operation resulted in the loss of a courageous officer, Inspector Terfa Anyiatse, who died from gunshot wounds sustained during the ambush.
Subsequent operations in Daudu and Makurdi led to the recovery of 7 locally manufactured pistols, 3 AK-47 rifles, and the apprehension of 5 suspected robbers along with 32 cultists. These successful operations underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s steadfast commitment to combating violent crimes, including robbery, kidnapping, and banditry.

IGP Egbetokun praised the officers for their valor and expressed his sincere condolences to Inspector Anyiatse’s family, honoring his sacrifice for the sake of national security. He reiterated the police force’s resolve to eliminate crime from the country and encouraged the public to stay alert, reporting any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
