Heineken Lokpobiri, Nigeria’s State Minister for Petroleum Resources, has affirmed the continued global significance of oil and gas as primary sources of revenue.
Speaking at the launch of the Oil and Gas Academy in the Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Lokpobiri encouraged investment in oil and gas energy capacity building. He stated that the future of energy security in Nigeria, West Africa, and Africa as a whole remains heavily reliant on oil and gas, as these resources provide governments with the revenue needed for infrastructure development and other essential services.
“I am privileged to travel around the world, and there is no country that is reducing investment in oil and gas,” the Minister stated.
Lokpobiri highlighted the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy as a crucial institution for developing the workforce needed to support the oil and gas sector in the state. He also noted that the Federal Government is reviewing its commitment to exploration in the Kolmani oil field.

The Minister acknowledged that the license for the Kolmani oil field had been blocked and had expired. However, following discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the licenses for the Kolmani project have been renewed.
Lokpobiri urged the people of Bauchi to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Oil and Gas Academy. He assured them that the Federal Government will support Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir’s vision for establishing the academy in Alkaleri.
This initiative reflects Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to developing its oil and gas resources while also investing in human capital development within the energy sector.
