President Bola Tinubu has initiated a range of transformative programs focused on improving the lives of Nigeria’s impoverished and vulnerable communities, demonstrating his administration’s dedication to inclusive growth. A key component of these initiatives is the launch of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) in April 2024, which aims to offer financial assistance to eligible Nigerians seeking higher education. By the conclusion of the 2023/2024 academic year, NELFUND had allocated around ₦22.7 billion to more than 215,000 students, effectively lowering financial obstacles to education.
In the realm of healthcare, Tinubu appointed Muhammad Ali Pate as the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare in August 2023. Under Pate’s guidance, the ministry introduced a revitalization plan targeting 5,500 primary healthcare centers, with 3,018 expected to be completed by 2025. This initiative seeks to improve healthcare access, especially in rural regions, addressing long-standing inequities within the healthcare system.
On the economic front, the commencement of Aliko Dangote’s 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery near Lagos in October 2024 has introduced competitive forces into Nigeria’s downstream oil sector. The refinery’s pricing approach has resulted in a decrease in petrol prices in Lagos to ₦860 per liter, reflecting genuine supply and demand for the first time. This advancement is in line with Tinubu’s broader economic strategies aimed at lowering living expenses and fostering competition in essential industries.

After an 18-month break marked by the recall of ambassadors in September 2023, Nigeria is preparing to appoint new ambassadors to more than 100 diplomatic missions around the globe. This action reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to reconnecting with the international community and building global partnerships that can aid in the development of Nigeria and enhance the well-being of its citizens.
Together, these efforts highlight President Tinubu’s focus on enacting policies that specifically support Nigeria’s marginalized groups, promoting a fairer and more prosperous society.
