The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is taking bold steps to grow Nigeria’s digital economy. By expanding its iHatch initiative, NITDA boosts job creation and opens doors for young tech innovators. This move reflects the agency’s focus on skills development and startup support.
iHatch is a startup incubation program managed by the Office for Nigerian Digital Innovation (ONDI), under NITDA. The program helps young entrepreneurs develop ideas into viable businesses and aims to build a strong tech ecosystem. It also strengthens the digital economy through innovation and enterprise.
Kashifu Inuwa, Director-General of NITDA, recently spoke about the expansion of iHatch during a ceremony at the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR) in Abuja. He explained that the program aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The agenda emphasizes digital transformation, youth empowerment, and economic diversification.
The iHatch initiative offers training in business development, marketing, and product design. Participants learn how to turn their ideas into scalable solutions and secure funding for their ventures. Each cohort receives six months of training and support, and every startup gets mentorship from top industry leaders.
NITDA boosts job creation by ensuring these startups grow into businesses that can hire others. Startups developed through iHatch already contribute to local economies by offering services and creating job opportunities. Many are focused on health, agriculture, fintech, and education.
Through iHatch, NITDA works with foreign and local partners to expand opportunities. One key partner is the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Together, they provide technical assistance and help startups access global markets. This partnership strengthens Nigeria’s global position in digital innovation.
The latest batch of the iHatch program includes 8 startups. These startups are developing solutions that solve real problems and meet local needs. Some are creating healthcare platforms, while others are improving logistics and digital payment systems. NITDA ensures these businesses receive the tools and guidance they need to grow.
iHatch is not just about training. It builds a community of young thinkers and doers. It encourages collaboration, and it gives young people the courage to lead. NITDA believes that investing in young Nigerians means investing in the future of the country.
The program has been well-received in Abuja and other regions, and there are plans to extend it nationwide. NITDA aims to reach more young Nigerians who have ideas but lack the support to bring them to life. By doing so, NITDA boosts job creation and supports national development goals.
Technology is changing how people live and work, and Nigeria must stay ahead. NITDA’s approach combines innovation with practical impact. It promotes inclusion, drives entrepreneurship, and builds digital capacity at the grassroots.
With programs like iHatch, NITDA boosts job creation and helps turn Nigeria into a hub for digital talent. The agency’s commitment to innovation continues to inspire confidence and produce results.
