French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Wednesday that France may recognize a Palestinian state by June, suggesting that this could encourage some Middle Eastern nations to acknowledge Israel as well.
“We must progress towards the recognition of a Palestinian state. In the coming months, we will take steps in that direction. My intention is not to appease anyone; it is simply the right thing to do,” he expressed during an interview on France 5 television.
“I also aim to contribute to a collective effort that would encourage those who support Palestine to reciprocate by recognizing Israel, which many have yet to do.”

While nearly 150 countries have acknowledged Palestine as a sovereign state, most major Western nations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Japan, have not.
Countries that do not recognize Israel include Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen.
“Our goal is to convene a conference in June, alongside Saudi Arabia, where we can finalize the process of mutual recognition among several nations,” Macron added.
