The Vatican announced on Monday that the canonization of Carlo Acutis, the first saint of the millennial generation, has been postponed following the death of Pope Francis.
Acutis, an Italian teenager who succumbed to leukemia in 2006 at the age of 15, was scheduled to be canonized in a ceremony at St. Peter’s Square on April 27.
Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni also confirmed that the current Jubilee, or Catholic Holy Year, will proceed as scheduled despite the pope’s passing.
Pope Francis, aged 88, passed away on Monday morning.
