
On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin accepted a proposal from U.S. President Donald Trump for a 30-day halt in attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure between Russia and Ukraine, as reported by the Kremlin. Following this agreement, Putin instructed the Russian military accordingly.
In a statement, the Kremlin noted that the two leaders engaged in a “detailed and frank exchange of views” regarding Ukraine during their phone conversation. Putin emphasized that any resolution to the conflict should be “comprehensive, sustainable, and long-term,” while also considering Russia’s security interests and the underlying causes of the war.
The discussion included a U.S. initiative for a ceasefire lasting 30 days, which Ukraine had agreed to the previous week.
