U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged in discussions regarding Russia’s conflict in Ukraine with Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky on Monday, as both Washington and European nations aim to recalibrate their strategies following the recent confrontation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
According to U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, the two officials addressed U.S.-Czech relations, focusing on their commitment to peace and stability, the enhancement of NATO defense spending, and the procurement of U.S. technology to support Czechia’s energy requirements.
Rubio also highlighted President Trump’s commitment to achieving a lasting resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Bruce noted. On the same day, Trump indicated that his patience was waning as European leaders considered a possible ceasefire.
In a separate statement on X, Lipavsky affirmed that collaborating with the U.S. to establish a fair and enduring peace for Ukraine is a key priority for the Czech government.
“We discussed the importance of mutually beneficial transatlantic cooperation, particularly in terms of Europe increasing its share of defense responsibilities,” he remarked.
