In a significant development that has garnered both national and international interest, Seyi Tinubu, the son of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, is facing serious allegations from Comrade Atiku Abubakar Isah, who claims to be the president of a faction within the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
Isah accuses Seyi Tinubu of attempting to bribe him with ₦100 million, orchestrating his kidnapping, and subjecting him to physical violence. Seyi Tinubu has firmly rejected these claims, describing them as entirely fabricated and an effort to damage his reputation. In a recent post on Instagram, he expressed his astonishment, stating, ‘Wow.. how can someone lie with such confidence…?? Wow wow… this is an attempt to defame my character. May God be with you, Comrade Atiku Isah.’ He further clarified, ‘I have never met with Comrade Isah in Lagos or anywhere else in the world. I have never knowingly encountered him. I did not visit any place with thugs. All the allegations made by Atiku Isah are completely fictional.’ The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has also rejected claims of Seyi Tinubu’s involvement in its leadership transition.
In a statement from NANS Senate President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde, the association labeled the accusations as unfounded and a calculated effort to sow discord and damage reputations. Babatunde stressed that NANS adheres to principles of transparency, equity, and accountability, with its leadership transition process governed by its constitution and overseen by an independent committee.
Additionally, a collective known as Friends of Seyi Tinubu (FOST) has stepped up to support Seyi in light of these accusations. In a statement, FOST President, Comrade Adejorin Tai Manuel, labeled the allegations as baseless and malicious, intended to damage the reputation of an individual who is genuinely dedicated to the advancement and unity of Nigerian students. The organization emphasized Seyi Tinubu’s unwavering support for the student body and various youth-oriented initiatives, dedicating his resources, time, and influence to promote peace, unity, and progress within the community.
Despite the gravity of these allegations, there is a notable lack of supporting evidence. There are no audio recordings, videos, documents, or witnesses to back the claims made by Comrade Isah. Without solid proof, these serious accusations seem to be an effort to undermine Seyi Tinubu and, by extension, the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
