The ministry said the measure will remain in effect in 2,201 municipalities — about 27 percent of the total — “considered to be at particular risk”.
Many of these areas are near wetlands, migratory bird routes, and coastal zones, which increase the likelihood of contact between domestic poultry and wild birds, a key factor in the spread of the disease.

The last outbreak in Spain was reported on January 13 in Lleida province in the northeast, and the country was declared free of the disease in February, the ministry added.
Since July 2025, Spain has recorded 165 outbreaks in wild birds and six in captive birds. Confinement measures have also been implemented in other European countries, including Britain and France.
Bird flu can be transmitted through droppings and saliva, as well as contaminated food and water.
