American citizen Faye Hall announced on Saturday that she has been released by the Taliban after being detained in Afghanistan last month.
“I have never felt prouder to be an American,” Hall stated in a video shared by President Donald Trump on Truth Social. “Thank you, Mr. President,” she continued. “God bless you.”
In response, Trump expressed his gratitude for Hall’s message, stating, “So honored with your words!”
The announcement of Hall’s release was made earlier by Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. Special Representative to Afghanistan, on X.
According to a U.S. official, Adam Boehler, the special presidential envoy for hostage affairs, along with Qatari officials and others, facilitated her release. Hall was detained in February alongside a British couple, Barbie and Peter Reynolds.
British media reported that the couple, both in their seventies, had been involved in educational projects in Afghanistan for 18 years and chose to remain in the country even after the Taliban regained control in 2021.
There was no update regarding the couple, whose family has been advocating for their release due to concerns about their health.
A source indicated that Hall was released on Thursday following a court order, with logistical assistance from Qatar, which serves as the United States’ protecting power in Afghanistan.
Upon her release, Hall was welcomed at the Qatari embassy in Kabul and confirmed to be in good health after medical evaluations, according to the source.
Several Americans continue to be held in Afghanistan.
