Tensions persist within France’s far-right Rassemblement National (RN) party following Marine Le Pen’s recent sentencing to a five-year ban from holding public office. A recent poll testing potential candidates for the 2027 presidential election has caused further friction, particularly within Le Pen’s inner circle.
The poll, conducted by the French Institute of Public Opinion (IFOP) and commissioned by the hard-right think-tank Hexagone, initially only tested Le Pen’s lieutenant, Jordan Bardella, as a candidate. Some within Le Pen’s entourage viewed this as an attempt to undermine her potential candidacy, which the party has consistently presented as its primary option.

Hexagone announced on April 27 that it would publish a “major exclusive survey of voting intentions for the 2027 presidential election,” based on a sample of 10,000 respondents, testing various second-round scenarios. The announcement was accompanied by a visual featuring 14 political figures from across the political spectrum, with Bardella prominently placed at the center.
