At the age of 23, Violette Dorange has made history as the youngest sailor to successfully complete the Vendee Globe, finishing the challenging solo round-the-world yacht race on Sunday.
Dorange secured 25th place after spending 90 days, 22 hours, and 37 minutes at sea, surpassing the previous record held by Alan Roura, who was the youngest finisher in 2016 with a time of 105 days.
This achievement comes 24 years after the remarkable performance of British sailor Ellen MacArthur, who finished in second place at the age of 24, completing her race in 94 days, four hours, and 25 minutes, as noted in a statement from the Vendee Globe.
Additionally, the French sailor is currently ranked 14th in the 2024 IMOCA championship, which features a series of prestigious offshore races with advanced 60-foot yachts.
