The presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has said he will accept the outcome of the party’s presidential primary election if the process is transparent.
The former Minister of Transportation, who joined thousands of supporters and party members on Monday to participate in the primary in his ward in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, however warned that he would contest the outcome if the process is not transparent.
The former Rivers State Governor queued alongside party faithful to cast his vote at Ward 8 in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
The presidential primary is being conducted using the Option A4 voting method across wards nationwide.
Speaking with journalists after voting, Amaechi expressed confidence in the process and said he hoped the exercise would be free, fair and transparent.
He said: “There was a huge turnout in their thousands. There was dancing, celebrations and all that. I cast my vote and I left the place.”
When asked to describe the process, he said: “I hope that the system will be transparent as it was in my village. If it is transparent, I will accept the result. If it is not free and fair, a lot of us will react.”
On his ambition, he said: “If you see what I have done in Rivers State, I changed the face of the state in education and security. Before, people couldn’t go out due to insecurity.”
He added that his administration invested in schools, health centres, roads and electricity, claiming that about 750 megawatts of power was generated during his tenure.
Amaechi said governance requires commitment and not just political ambition, noting that leadership should be treated like engineering where systems must be fixed.
As of filing this report, the collation of results had not been completed, as the ADC presidential primary committee in the state awaited returns from various wards.
The race for the party’s ticket includes Amaechi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former PDP presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
