Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has urged residents of Ogun State to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, intensifying efforts to mobilise grassroots backing for the President ahead of the next general election.
Tompolo, who serves as Grand Patron of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, made the appeal during the inauguration of the movement’s Ogun State chapter in Abeokuta. He was represented at the event by Kestin Pondi, Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited.
The inauguration forms part of the movement’s wider effort to establish structures across the country and take its campaign message directly to communities. As the 2027 election approaches, the group is seeking to engage residents through organised mobilisation and political outreach.
Tompolo Backs Tinubu’s Economic Reforms
During the event, Tompolo expressed support for Tinubu’s administration, arguing that the President’s economic policies were intended to reposition the country and improve its long-term prospects.
He acknowledged that the reforms had created difficulties for Nigerians but maintained that the country needed to remain committed to the process. He also urged residents to consider the administration’s policies and their expected long-term benefits when assessing its performance.
Among the issues highlighted in support of the President were the removal of the petrol subsidy, efforts to improve infrastructure and the financial resources available to state governments.
Tompolo also argued that the reforms had helped create conditions for improved salary and pension payments by state governments. These claims form part of the political message the movement intends to communicate as it seeks support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
However, the economic impact of the reforms remains an important subject of public debate, particularly as households and businesses continue to assess the effects of inflation, living costs and changes in purchasing power.
PBAT Door-to-Door Movement Expands Its Grassroots Campaign
The inauguration of the Ogun chapter represents another step in the movement’s nationwide mobilisation strategy.
At the event, 26 campaign vehicles and other materials were donated to support activities across the state. The resources are intended to facilitate outreach and help coordinators take the movement’s message to different communities.
Through its door-to-door approach, the organisation aims to engage residents beyond conventional political gatherings. This strategy places emphasis on local participation, community-level coordination and direct communication with potential voters.
Furthermore, the movement intends to work with political stakeholders and other support groups to strengthen its presence ahead of the election.
Grassroots mobilisation remains an important feature of Nigerian political campaigns because local networks can help candidates and support organisations communicate with voters across different communities. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of such initiatives depends on their organisation, public engagement and ability to sustain activities beyond launch events.
Ogun State and the 2027 Political Landscape
Ogun State occupies an important position in the political calculations of the South-West, particularly because of its proximity to Lagos and its commercial, industrial and agricultural activities.
The state has a diverse electorate comprising business owners, workers, farmers, traders, professionals and young voters. Their political choices may be shaped by different concerns, including employment, infrastructure, education, security and the cost of living.
Consequently, efforts to mobilise support for Tinubu in Ogun will take place against a broader background of public expectations about economic performance and governance.
For the movement, the challenge will be to build a structure capable of reaching voters across the state’s communities while maintaining consistent engagement with their concerns.
The donation of campaign vehicles provides logistical support for that objective. However, the resources alone cannot determine the level of public support the President will receive. Voters will ultimately make their decisions based on their individual assessments of the administration and the alternatives presented during the election campaign.
Economic Concerns Remain Central to Voters’ Decisions
Although political support groups play a role in shaping campaign conversations, economic conditions remain a major consideration for many Nigerians.
The removal of petrol subsidies and changes to foreign exchange policies have significantly altered the country’s economic environment. While the Federal Government has defended the reforms as necessary measures, their effects on household budgets and business operations continue to attract public attention.
For residents of Ogun State, concerns about transportation costs, food prices, electricity, employment and access to business financing are likely to remain part of the wider political conversation.
Therefore, political mobilisation will involve more than asking voters to support a candidate. It will also require sustained engagement with the issues affecting their daily lives.
The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement’s campaign in Ogun will consequently be assessed against the broader expectations residents have of the Federal Government and its economic direction.
Tompolo’s Political Mobilisation Ahead of 2027
Tompolo’s appeal to Ogun residents reflects his involvement in the growing network of support groups campaigning for Tinubu’s re-election.
By supporting the inauguration of the state’s chapter and providing campaign vehicles, the Niger Delta leader is contributing to efforts aimed at extending the movement’s reach beyond its existing structures.
As the 2027 election draws closer, the movement is expected to focus on organising its coordinators, strengthening community engagement and communicating its reasons for supporting another Tinubu administration.
Ultimately, its impact in Ogun State will depend on how effectively it translates its mobilisation plans into sustained voter engagement. The election will provide the opportunity for residents to decide whether the President should receive another term based on their assessment of his administration.
