The Oyo State Police Command says it is investigating a viral video allegedly showing the beheading of one of the teachers abducted during last Friday’s attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday.
The abducted teacher was among several victims kidnapped by gunmen alongside students during attacks on schools in the Yawota and Esiele communities of Oriire Local Government Area.
Following the incident, a video circulated widely on social media, with claims that it showed the beheading of one of the abducted teachers.

Although Governor Seyi Makinde has confirmed the killing of one of the abducted teachers, the state government has not stated whether the victim was beheaded.
Speaking on the programme, Ayanlade said the police had commenced a detailed examination of the video while also engaging with the victim’s family.
“We have that video and we are still examining the video and investigating the intensity and fact in the video,” he said.
“Of course, the teacher has been identified as the mathematics teacher, but what we see on the surface is not enough. We are examining the video as well, and we have made contact with the family as well.”
The police spokesperson assured that security agencies were working with the state government to secure the release of the remaining abducted students and teachers.
“The Governor, His Excellency Gov. Seyi Makinde, held a press conference with his security chiefs. Of course, he said the government is willing to listen to them so that, in my opinion, we will not bow to terror,” Ayanlade said.
“We are working assiduously with other security agencies and the government to ensure that these children are rescued unhurt.”
Ayanlade also addressed questions surrounding the identity of the attackers and whether they should be classified as terrorists or bandits.
“On the issue of naming them, like I said, it’s an ongoing investigation, so I wouldn’t want to preempt investigation in naming whosoever it is,” he stated.
“Fundamental remains that they are criminals, whether they are terrorists or they are bandits. Whosoever they belong to, we would see to this and we will spare any of it,” Ayanlade added.
Following the abductions, President Bola Tinubu assured Nigerians that the victims would be rescued and condemned the reported killing of one of the abducted teachers.
