The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has expanded the partnership base for its 10th Annual Conference with the addition of the Lagos, Delta, Imo and Ekiti state governments, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), Access Bank Plc and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).
The new partners join a growing list of public and private sector organisations supporting the conference, which begins today, October 7, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.
The expanded partnership comes as GOCOP prepares to mark the 10th anniversary of its annual gathering, which has evolved into a platform for discussions involving media executives, policymakers, business leaders, academics and civil society representatives.
Conference Opens With Focus on Digital Publishing
The first day of the conference will focus largely on the changing landscape of digital publishing and the challenges facing online media businesses.
Publisher of Sundiata Post, Max Amuchie, will lead the opening presentation with a session titled “The Sundiata Post Model: Building the African Newsroom for the Long Term.”
The presentation will examine the sustainability of digital news organisations and the need for online publishers to develop business and editorial models capable of surviving in a rapidly changing media environment.
Meanwhile, Publisher of The Lagos Times, Biodun Durojaiye, will speak on “AI and Prompt Engineering for Online Publishing.”
The session comes at a time when artificial intelligence is increasingly influencing how newsrooms research, produce, distribute and analyse content.
However, the growing use of AI also raises questions about accuracy, editorial responsibility, verification and the preservation of professional journalism standards.
Monetisation Takes Centre Stage
The first day will also feature a presentation on “Monetisation of Digital Media Business” by Dr Monday Ashibogwu, Publisher of Quick News.
For online publishers, building sustainable revenue models remains one of the industry’s major challenges.
Although digital media has expanded access to audiences, publishers must increasingly find ways to generate sustainable income through advertising, subscriptions, partnerships, events and other commercial opportunities.
Consequently, discussions around monetisation could provide practical insights for publishers seeking to build stronger and more sustainable businesses.
The day’s presentations will be followed by lunch with GOCOP partners, while the guild’s Annual General Meeting will round off the first day.
2027 Elections Become Major Conference Focus
The second day of the conference on Thursday, October 8, will shift attention to Nigeria’s political and electoral environment.
The theme, “2027 Elections: Trust, Transparency and Shared Responsibilities,” places particular emphasis on the responsibilities of institutions, political actors, the media, security agencies and citizens in the electoral process.
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
Dr Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, founding partner of Olisa Agbakoba Legal and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, will chair the session.
The panel will include CP Abayomi Shogunle, Commissioner of Police for Election Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation; Prof Tayo Popoola of the University of Lagos; Adaora Onyechere Sydney Jack, Creative Director of Gender Agenda and Founder of WEWE Network Afrique; and Lanre Arogundade, Executive Director of the International Press Centre.
Together, the speakers are expected to examine different dimensions of electoral credibility and the role of stakeholders in strengthening public confidence in the democratic process.
New Partners Strengthen the Conference
GOCOP Deputy President and Chairman of the 2026 Conference Planning Committee, Olumide Iyanda, said the addition of the new partners demonstrates the growing importance of the issues being discussed.
The Lagos, Delta, Imo and Ekiti governments bring state-level perspectives to the partnership, while SNEPCo and Access Bank represent major private-sector participation.
NASENI, meanwhile, brings a science, engineering and innovation perspective to the growing partnership network.
The diversity of the partners reflects the broad scope of the conference itself, which extends beyond journalism to issues involving democracy, business, technology and national development.
Existing Partners Remain Part of the Platform
The newly announced partners join several organisations previously associated with the conference.
They include the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Nigeria LNG Limited, Nigeria Customs Service, Dangote Group, Seplat Energy, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Nigerian Communications Commission and Bank of Industry.
Other partners include the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Securities and Exchange Commission, TAJBank, Emadeb Energy, Setraco Nigeria Limited, Sovereign Trust Insurance and Nestlé Nigeria Plc.
The broad range of participating organisations gives the conference access to perspectives from different areas of the Nigerian economy and public sector.
Media’s Role in a Changing Political Environment
The timing of the conference also places particular attention on the role of online publishers as political activities increase ahead of the 2027 elections.
Digital platforms have become important channels for political information, public debate and civic engagement. At the same time, the rapid spread of information creates greater responsibility for publishers to verify claims and distinguish credible information from misinformation.
Therefore, the conference’s focus on trust and transparency comes at an important point for Nigeria’s media industry.
Online publishers will have to balance the demand for speed with the need for accuracy, fairness and responsible journalism.
A Decade of GOCOP Engagement
The 10th Annual Conference represents a significant milestone for GOCOP, which has built its annual gathering into a forum for discussions on issues of national importance.
The guild describes itself as a business membership organisation representing 127 corporate online publishers in Nigeria.
Over the years, its conference has brought together media professionals, government representatives, business leaders, academics and civil society organisations to discuss developments affecting Nigeria.
This year’s expanded partnership base further demonstrates the broad range of stakeholders interested in the future of digital publishing, democracy and national development.
Beyond the Conference Hall
Ultimately, the significance of the GOCOP conference will depend not only on the presentations delivered but also on the conversations and relationships that emerge from the event.
For online publishers, the sessions on artificial intelligence, newsroom sustainability and digital media monetisation provide an opportunity to consider how the industry can adapt to technological and commercial changes.
Similarly, the discussion on the 2027 elections provides a platform for stakeholders to examine how trust, transparency and shared responsibility can shape public confidence in the electoral process.
With the addition of state governments, major businesses and NASENI, the 10th GOCOP Annual Conference enters its anniversary year with a wider network of partners and a broader range of issues on the table.
As the conference opens in Lagos, the central challenge will be to turn those partnerships and discussions into practical ideas that can strengthen Nigeria’s digital media industry, democratic conversation and wider national development.
