Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has declared that the state is “100 per cent” behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Kefas made the declaration after meeting Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he said residents were benefiting from Federal Government interventions across several sectors.
Kefas Cites Federal Interventions
According to the governor, federal support for Taraba has strengthened public confidence in the Tinubu administration.
Kefas specifically pointed to interventions in security, education, healthcare and infrastructure as areas where he said residents were seeing the impact of the Federal Government.
“You can see that I’m on the ground; we’re in charge. All the intervention, all the support from the President, the people are feeling it, from security to free education to the healthcare system to infrastructure,” he said.
Moreover, Kefas argued that the benefits of these programmes had reinforced the belief among residents that the Federal Government was responding to the needs of the state.
Governor Declares Taraba’s Support for APC
The governor, who is also the leader of the APC in Taraba, said the people had given assurances of their support for Tinubu at the 2027 polls.
He consequently declared that Taraba was fully behind the ruling party.
“So the people have no doubt, and they’ve given all the assurance that Mr President is reaching out to them through me, and for that reason, they are going to vote for Mr President. Taraba State is for APC 100 per cent,” Kefas said.
The statement represents Kefas’ political commitment to supporting Tinubu and the APC. However, the eventual election result will be determined by voters and the electoral process in 2027.
Meeting With Tinubu
Kefas said his visit to the Presidential Villa was also intended to welcome Tinubu back and express condolences following the recent Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Ondo State.
He described the incident as a tragedy involving military personnel and other citizens and said it was important to extend sympathy to the President and those affected.
Beyond the condolence visit, the meeting provided an opportunity for the governor to discuss the relationship between the Federal Government and Taraba.
Security Remains a Major Issue
Security featured prominently in Kefas’ assessment of the Federal Government’s interventions.
For Taraba, which has faced security challenges in parts of the state, the governor’s emphasis on security places the issue among the factors shaping his administration’s relationship with Abuja.
At the same time, Kefas linked security improvements with wider development, arguing that government support must reach communities through tangible programmes and infrastructure.
Education and Healthcare Feature in Kefas’ Assessment
Education and healthcare also featured prominently in the governor’s remarks.
Kefas cited free education and improvements in the healthcare system as examples of areas where he believes federal intervention is being felt by residents.
Consequently, the governor has presented these sectors as part of the broader development argument behind his support for Tinubu.
For residents, however, the effectiveness of such programmes will ultimately depend on how consistently they translate into accessible services and improved conditions across communities.
Infrastructure Adds to Political Conversation
Infrastructure remains another major component of the governor’s assessment.
Kefas said residents were seeing the effects of Federal Government support through infrastructure projects and other interventions.
The emphasis on physical development also reflects the increasingly important role that roads, public facilities and other projects are expected to play in political conversations ahead of 2027.
Meanwhile, political parties and support groups are already intensifying mobilisation across states as the next general election approaches.
APC Mobilisation Intensifies Ahead of 2027
Kefas’ declaration comes amid increasing political activity around the 2027 presidential election.
The governor’s position also follows his move into the APC earlier in 2026, making him the ruling party’s leader in Taraba.
Since joining the APC, Kefas has repeatedly linked his decision to the development interests of Taraba, particularly the need for stronger cooperation between the state and Federal Government.
That political alignment now places the governor at the centre of the APC’s mobilisation efforts in the state as the 2027 election approaches.
From Political Declaration to Election Day
Kefas’ “100 per cent” declaration is therefore best understood as a political pledge from the governor and his party leadership rather than a guaranteed election outcome.
While he says residents have expressed support for Tinubu, the actual level of support will only become clear when voters cast their ballots in 2027.
Ultimately, the coming months will show whether the political alliance between Kefas and the APC can translate into sustained grassroots mobilisation across Taraba.
For now, however, the governor has made his position clear: he intends to mobilise the state behind Tinubu and the APC as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 presidential election.
