The Bank of Industry (BOI) has launched a new digital financing platform, MyBOI, aimed at simplifying access to its financing facilities, reducing barriers to credit and making the application process more efficient for businesses across Nigeria.
The platform, which went live on October 2, allows existing and prospective BOI customers to access conventional loan facilities and Non Interest Banking options through web and mobile channels.
MyBOI Brings Financing Applications Online
Through MyBOI, businesses can register, complete customer onboarding and required assessments, submit financing applications and supporting documents, and monitor the progress of their applications.
The platform is designed to reduce reliance on physical visits to BOI offices and give customers greater visibility throughout the financing process.
Consequently, businesses can manage more stages of their applications digitally while receiving updates on actions required and the status of their requests.
BOI Targets Faster Credit Processing
The launch forms part of BOI’s broader effort to automate and streamline its credit process.
According to the bank, traditional financing processes can involve multiple customer touchpoints, manual procedures, longer turnaround times and limited visibility into application progress.
MyBOI seeks to address these challenges by creating a more integrated digital application journey.
Moreover, automated workflows are expected to improve the flow of information between customers and the bank while reducing avoidable delays caused by fragmented processes.
Businesses Can Track Applications
One of the key features of the platform is application tracking.
Customers can monitor their applications through their dashboards and receive notifications as applications move through different stages of the credit process.
This gives businesses greater visibility into whether an application has been submitted, is under review, requires additional information, has been approved or has reached another stage of processing.
At the same time, the system allows customers to respond to requests for additional information and make corrections where applications are returned for clarification.
Platform Supports Different Types of Businesses
MyBOI is designed to serve a broad range of customers seeking BOI financing.
These include micro, small and medium enterprises, large businesses, cooperatives, associations and other eligible applicants.
The platform also supports BOI’s Non Interest Banking facilities, providing customers seeking Shariah compliant financing with a digital route into the bank’s financing process.
This wider coverage means the platform is not limited to a single category of business or financing need.
Digital Onboarding Strengthens Verification
For new customers, MyBOI includes an onboarding process through which the bank verifies relevant customer and business information.
The system can validate corporate information and carry out required Know Your Customer procedures before an applicant proceeds with the financing process.
Applicants may need to provide information such as company registration details, BVN, NIN, bank account information and identification documents, depending on the requirements of their application.
Therefore, while the platform simplifies the process, businesses still need to provide accurate information and complete the required documentation.
Financing Approval Is Not Automatic
Importantly, submitting an application through MyBOI does not guarantee that a business will receive financing.
Applications remain subject to BOI’s credit assessment, eligibility requirements and internal approval processes.
The bank evaluates factors including the applicant’s capacity to repay, financial position, collateral and other relevant credit considerations.
Consequently, the digital platform is designed to make the application process easier and more transparent, rather than remove the bank’s normal credit assessment procedures.
BOI Targets Greater Self Service
The bank also expects MyBOI to encourage greater self service among customers.
Businesses can begin applications, save their progress and return later to complete the process, reducing the need to start over when additional information is required.
Furthermore, the platform provides access to guidance materials and support channels for customers who need assistance.
BOI has also established support arrangements to help customers navigate the new system and address issues that may arise during the transition.
Technology Takes Centre Stage in Development Finance
The launch reflects a broader shift towards digital delivery within Nigeria’s financial sector.
For a development finance institution such as BOI, digitalisation can help improve how businesses interact with financing programmes while also giving the bank better access to application data and credit workflow information.
The platform is therefore expected to support more efficient management of applications while improving the customer experience.
Meanwhile, BOI continues to provide financing across sectors including agriculture and food processing, manufacturing, healthcare, technology, renewable energy, solid minerals and other areas of the economy.
A New Route to Business Financing
The introduction of MyBOI gives Nigerian businesses another digital route to accessing development finance.
For entrepreneurs, the major change is the ability to begin and manage much of the financing process online, while tracking applications without relying entirely on physical interactions with bank offices.
Ultimately, the success of the platform will depend on how effectively it reduces processing delays, improves communication and helps eligible businesses navigate the requirements for accessing finance.
For BOI, however, the objective is clear: use technology to make development financing more accessible, transparent and responsive while maintaining the credit standards required to protect the bank and its customers.
