Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has assured residents that his administration will continue to work in line with the mandate given to it by the people, with a renewed focus on the growth and development of the state.
The governor gave the assurance during visits to residents and All Progressives Congress members in Egor and Oredo Local Government Areas as part of ongoing engagements with communities across the state. He used the visits to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to development while also discussing infrastructure and the political activities surrounding the 2027 general election.
Okpebholo Reaffirms Commitment to Edo’s Development
Okpebholo said his administration understands the responsibility that comes with the mandate received from Edo residents and would continue to work toward fulfilling it.
According to the governor, the objective remains to promote growth and development across the state while ensuring that government projects respond to the needs of communities.
“We would continue to work according to the mandate Edo people gave to us. We would work for the growth and development of the State and the party,” Okpebholo said.
The governor’s message comes as his administration continues to highlight infrastructure, particularly road rehabilitation, as an important part of its development agenda.
Roads Remain a Major Priority
One of the major issues raised during the governor’s engagements was the condition of roads across Edo.
Okpebholo acknowledged that several roads inherited from previous administrations remain in poor condition. However, he said his government is working to address the problem and ensure that roads across the state become motorable.
“The bad roads in the State didn’t happen today, but the roads have been there before we came to power but we are working to ensure all the bad roads are fixed,” he said.
He added that the administration would continue working toward making roads accessible to residents and motorists.
The governor linked the road programme directly to the mandate given to his administration, stressing that residents expect government to translate political promises into visible improvements in their communities.
Consequently, road rehabilitation is likely to remain an important measure through which residents assess the administration’s development efforts.
Engagement With Egor and Oredo Residents
During the visits, Okpebholo and members of his team interacted with residents and party members at several locations.
In Egor Local Government Area, the delegation visited the Ogida Barracks Police Training School and the Textile Mill, where party members from the area’s 10 wards participated in the engagement.
The team later moved to Oredo, visiting Garrick Memorial College, Edokpolor Grammar School and Uwa Primary School.
These engagements provided an opportunity for the governor to speak directly with residents while reinforcing his administration’s development message.
Moreover, the visits formed part of wider grassroots mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 general election.
Governor Thanks Residents for Their Support
Okpebholo also thanked residents of Egor and Oredo for their support for the APC during the recently concluded local government elections.
He urged them to maintain their support for the party’s candidates during the 2027 elections, including candidates seeking seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and Edo State House of Assembly.
However, because the governor made these comments during party mobilisation activities, his remarks combined governance issues with political appeals ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The governor also referred to President Bola Tinubu and expressed support for his re-election campaign.
At the same time, the development agenda remained central to Okpebholo’s message as he pointed to ongoing efforts to address infrastructure challenges across Edo.
Deputy Governor Highlights Security
Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, who accompanied the governor during the engagements, also thanked party members for their continued support.
He urged them to support APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
Beyond the political mobilisation, Idahosa highlighted the administration’s emphasis on security, arguing that a safer environment can support investment, farming and other economic activities across the state.
Security remains closely connected to development because businesses and communities require a stable environment to operate effectively.
Therefore, the administration’s development agenda extends beyond roads and physical infrastructure to include conditions that can support economic activity.
Grassroots Development Takes Centre Stage
Okpebholo’s engagement with residents also reflects the importance of grassroots development in Edo’s political and administrative landscape.
Local governments remain closest to many residents, meaning that the success of development policies often depends on how effectively projects reach individual communities.
The governor has previously urged newly elected local government chairmen to prioritise grassroots development, improve accountability and ensure that government programmes have a visible impact on residents.
That approach places pressure on both state and local governments to demonstrate results beyond major urban centres.
In practical terms, residents want functioning roads, improved public facilities, greater security and economic opportunities that can improve everyday life.
Turning the Mandate Into Results
The governor’s latest assurance ultimately centres on the relationship between political mandates and government performance.
Winning an election gives an administration the authority to govern, but fulfilling that mandate requires translating campaign commitments into policies, projects and services that residents can see and experience.
Okpebholo has therefore positioned continued infrastructure development as part of his administration’s response to the expectations of Edo residents.
His comments on road rehabilitation are particularly significant because transportation infrastructure affects businesses, farmers, traders, commuters and communities across the state.
If roads become more accessible, movement of people and goods can become easier, while communities that previously faced transportation challenges can gain improved connections to commercial centres.
The Road Ahead for Edo
As Okpebholo’s administration continues its engagements across the state, attention will remain on how its development promises translate into measurable improvements.
The governor has assured residents that he will continue working according to the mandate given to him, while his administration has identified road rehabilitation, security and grassroots engagement among its areas of focus.
Meanwhile, political activity is already intensifying ahead of the 2027 general election, making the distinction between governance and party mobilisation increasingly important.
For residents, however, the central concern remains the delivery of tangible results.
Ultimately, Okpebholo’s message is that his administration intends to remain focused on the responsibility entrusted to it by Edo voters. The challenge now is to sustain that commitment through completed projects, functional infrastructure and development that reaches communities across the state.
