First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has inaugurated the All Progressives Congress Presidential Women Campaign Council in Abuja, bringing more than 500 women support groups into a unified campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general elections. She urged women to return to their communities, mobilise voters and support APC candidates from the presidency down to the state assemblies.
The inauguration marks another step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 elections, particularly its efforts to coordinate women leaders, support groups and grassroots organisers across the country.
More Than 500 Support Groups Come Together
According to the organisers, more than 500 women support groups collapsed their separate structures into the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s women wing.
The groups include different grassroots organisations that had previously operated under separate platforms, including the Torch Bearers, Tinubu Support Group and Tinubu Again.
By bringing these groups together, the APC is seeking to create a more coordinated women-led campaign structure ahead of the elections.
Oluremi Tinubu told the gathering that the various support organisations would now operate under one structure, with the APC serving as the common political platform.
Consequently, the arrangement is designed to reduce fragmentation among women supporters while creating a broader network for campaign communication and grassroots mobilisation.
Women Asked to Take Campaign Message to Communities
The First Lady also urged women leaders to return to their respective states and communities and communicate the administration’s programmes to voters.
She emphasised mobilisation from the grassroots, with the campaign structure expected to reach communities, local government areas, wards and polling units.
This approach reflects the importance of local organisation in electoral campaigns. While national rallies can generate visibility, ward and community structures provide a direct channel for political parties and support groups to engage voters.
Furthermore, the campaign council plans to organise six zonal mega rallies, followed by state-level activities and a grand finale in Abuja.
The structure is expected to support APC candidates across different levels of government, including the presidency, governorships, National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly.
Remi Tinubu Says Economy Is Stabilising
During her address, Oluremi Tinubu also defended the administration’s economic direction, saying Nigeria’s economy is stabilising and inflation is coming down.
She pointed to developments such as stronger foreign reserves, renewed investor interest and increased support for farmers as signs of what she described as progress under the administration.
The claims formed part of the political message delivered to APC women at the event and were presented alongside the campaign’s broader message of moving from economic reforms towards prosperity.
However, the economic assessment represents the administration’s political position, while the wider state of Nigeria’s economy involves several indicators and differing interpretations.
Nevertheless, the First Lady urged women to communicate the government’s economic message within their communities as the 2027 campaign develops.
APC Targets Women’s Grassroots Network
Meanwhile, the campaign council’s structure places considerable emphasis on women as grassroots organisers.
Women leaders from across the country were brought into the campaign structure, while organisers said the council would work to strengthen mobilisation across communities.
The focus on women reflects their importance to Nigeria’s electoral participation and political organisation. Beyond voting, women participate in community networks, campaign coordination, voter engagement and grassroots mobilisation.
Therefore, the APC’s decision to consolidate hundreds of support groups into one campaign structure gives its women’s wing a broader organisational platform for the coming election cycle.
Nana Shettima Calls for Community-Level Mobilisation
The wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, also urged women from across the six geopolitical zones to take the campaign message back to their communities.
She highlighted programmes under the Renewed Hope Initiative, including scholarships, women’s empowerment and support for older persons and people with disabilities.
According to her, the initiative has provided various forms of assistance to Nigerians while supporting the administration’s wider social intervention agenda.
She subsequently encouraged women to use their community networks to communicate the administration’s programmes and mobilise support for APC candidates.
Her remarks reinforced the broader message of the inauguration: the campaign will not rely solely on national events but will seek to build support through local structures.
Campaign Council Sets Out Wider Political Structure
The inauguration brought together APC women leaders, state representatives, grassroots organisers and other campaign stakeholders.
The campaign council is expected to coordinate activities across the country, while state and local structures will handle mobilisation closer to voters.
Moreover, the council’s responsibilities extend beyond the presidential contest. The First Lady urged women to support APC candidates across the ballot.
That means the mobilisation effort will cover governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and state assembly contests alongside the presidential election.
As a result, the women’s council could become an important component of the party’s wider campaign organisation as political preparations intensify.
From Separate Groups to One Campaign Structure
The decision to merge the support groups represents an effort to create a more unified political network.
Previously, different women’s groups could organise independently around particular political personalities, initiatives or campaign platforms. Bringing them under one structure allows the APC to coordinate messaging, activities and mobilisation more closely.
At the same time, maintaining coordination across hundreds of groups and communities will require clear leadership, communication and organisation.
The campaign council will therefore have to translate the Abuja inauguration into sustained activity across states, local governments and wards.
The Road to 2027
The inauguration of the APC Presidential Women Campaign Council signals another phase in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
For Oluremi Tinubu and the women leaders assembled in Abuja, the immediate objective is to consolidate the various support networks, strengthen grassroots organisation and communicate the APC’s political message across the country.
The economy will also remain part of that campaign message, with the First Lady presenting stabilising economic conditions and falling inflation as evidence of progress.
Ultimately, the 2027 contest will involve competing parties, candidates, policy arguments and voter choices. The women’s campaign council’s task will be to turn its newly unified structure into sustained political engagement across Nigeria as the election approaches.
